humpbacks and gray whales are part of the crowd. on july 4th weekend, 115 whales were counted done a one-hour survey and that's a whole lot more than usual. >> i good out every year, been ing this four or five years andhis season i've seen a lot more whales a lot closer to shore. >> reporter: scientists say they know why there are so many whales but a that's they plenty of food which scientists cant say is why there's so much more food out there this season. the high concentration of whale means ship and boat captains have to be careful. federal authorities have issued a warning for ships cing into the bay to slow down to ten knots because the ipping channels are right next to where the whales are fding. if you want to pot some are -- spot some whales lot of whales have been spotted next to the golden gate bridge in ocean beach, even in santa cruz. reportinlive, abc7 news.

health officials have a warning for anyone who gets a backyard hiken coop. don't pucker up to your poultry. the cdc says there's a rise in people getting sick from salmonella from live chickens. many of the case involve people nuzzling or snuggling baby chicks, even kissing them. some baby chicks have salmonella in their systems and can get on their coats. salmonella can lead to severe diarrhea and in some cases death. i can see the temptation when they're little.
